Earlier today my sister and I were discussing the next country we should go to when we go on our holiday.
After a few other options like Curaçao, Portugal, Thailand or Jamaica (Ya Mahn!) she said 'What about China?' I thought about it and thought; why not? I love Asia and China has a great culture, but then I realized that I almost forgot about one of my tattoo’s…
It’s a Buddhist mantra in Sanskrit and well, China isn’t so fond of Buddhism in general, Buddhist monks from Tibet still get tortured for their believe. And so I realized, it would be a great risk for me to walk around with Sanskrit mantra on my arm. I don’t want to get arrested, especially not in China!
So then my sister chuckled and said 'Well that's nice, on one arm you have a Buddhist Mantra and on the other hand you have a tiger, so if we would go to Sri Lanka you would also be at risk due to the possibility that people might think that you support the Tamil Tigers' - The Tamils and Sinhalese folk are at war with eachother - Which made me realized that I’m at risk there too (but not as much as in China) So we both laughed because of the irony.
Never realized that tattoo’s can cause trouble like that too :P
Thank god I live in a country where freedom of speech & expression still mostly exsists.
But, fuck it! I love my tattoo’s. I’m not bovvured! I just need to cover up whenever I would visit China :)
