I went to dinner with my dad last night. I had won a dinner cheque at work and I gave it to my parents but my mom couldn’t go so I went with my dad.
We don’t do this often, so it was fun being with my dad, eating food I normally wouldn’t eat, the vibe, the talking people on the background.
Still. When I’m with my dad I can’t help the strange stares we sometimes get.
My dads 59, I’m 24. He’s white and I’m ‘black’. I can imagine that it raises some questions for other people.
However, I can’t help to think how many people actually see us as a couple, instead of father and daughter.
Back in the days I wouldn’t notice or think about this, but I can imagine why people would wonder.
Sometimes it makes me want to put on a name with “don’t worry, I’m adopted” underneath it, just because of the looks we get.
