People keep saying home, but there are a lot of victims who aren’t dutch and they aren’t even close to home. They need to be identified before returning to their families.
I feel for the families who have to wait so much longer before their loved ones are home.
no-one knows who was in those coffins. maybe they were all dutch, maybe they weren’t - that’s beside the point. This was an important move in the ‘investigation’ and not just for the people directly involved. Especially here in the Netherlands everyone seems to know someone (via via) who was on that flight. it’s a big impact on society.. and if the hundreds of people standing at the side of the road watching the hearses pass and feel better by ‘welcoming them home’ who cares about technicalities like what nationality these particular victims are?!
@bijou1986 It’s one step for them to have finally arrived, because it wasn’t even certain IF they would be returning home.
I’m just thinking about the people who cannot welcome them to their home yet, especially since identification can take a few weeks or months. I can’t imagine how devastating that must be.
that’s very true but this day of public mourning with the first 40 victims finally arriving.. everyone feels connected even if they didn’t personally know anyone who was on the flight. that’s why everyone says and feels like they’re coming ‘home’. even if it turns out none of these people were actually Dutch.
Ofcourse I get that, I’m impressed by the unity here in the Netherlands on this particular day.
My thoughts are too complex, like a tree, and therefor I think of every detail in a story, event, ect. What I meant is, I also think about the other families that are not physically here in the Netherlands right now, the ones who might have to watch it on their loved returning to safety on a TV screen. Hopefully though, I hope they could make it to the Netherlands to attend today and the following days. But surely there could be a possibility that they can’t, and they are in my thoughts aswell.
